Once Abandoned… Now Thriving, August Update

Lucy, Trooper + Oscar — A Bond Forged in Survival, Now Running Free 🐴✨

They were thrown away like trash.
Lucy—half blind, with one eye removed just the day before—stood trembling at a livestock auction, having already endured the unthinkable.
Trooper and Oscar—two gentle geldings—were by her side, confused, emaciated, and betrayed.

All three had just been seized by animal control from a horrific neglect case… only to be dumped, abandoned again, into the slaughter pipeline.

But then came the miracle.

Our team stepped in and said YES—yes to the risk, yes to the cost, yes to the sacred duty of protection.

And then Trooper did something extraordinary.
He became Lucy’s guardian. Her safe place. Her chaperone.
Wherever she moved, he followed. If he paused, she waited with her good eye for him to lead. Their bond wasn’t trained—it was instinct. Born in trauma. Strengthened in grace.

Over the next few weeks at our Colorado sanctuary, they received deep love, medical care, and the safety they never knew they could trust. Their ribs began to soften under blankets of nourishment. Their eyes—once vacant—began to glow.

And then, on July 23rd, something sacred happened:

They arrived in California.
To a foster home where they now run free.
Where they are cherished.
Where they are—finally—home.

Today, they’re gentle, joyful, and full of affection.
Lucy is safe. Trooper is still leading. Oscar has found peace.
They are complete love bugs, adored like never before.

🐴 Meet Louis — Our 346th Life Saved

Louis is 30 years old.
When he came to Believe Ranch and Rescue, he was emaciated, depressed, and barely holding on.

His owner, heartbroken, surrendered him—unable to give him the care he desperately needed. Louis had given so much in his life… but he had nothing left.

Until love met him here.

With nourishing food, gentle hands, and space to heal, Louis came back to life. Slowly, steadily—and then all at once.

Today, he’s thriving. Curious. Playful. And yes—running across the pasture like a horse half his age.

Louis reminds us:
It’s never too late for a second chance.
And every horse deserves one.

Louis is our 346th rescue—and he won’t be the last.

Last month, we shared the exciting news of our new partnership with Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation—a collaboration rooted in healing, hope, and second chances for young survivors.

Now, the journey begins.

On August 26, we launch our very first:

Horse 101: Young Adults

A powerful, hands-on experience for young adults navigating life with and after cancer.

Together, they’ll explore leadership, connection, and healing through the wisdom of our rescued horses.

This is the first of many quarterly sessions—and the start of something sacred.

Because when you pair a survivor with a rescued horse, something extraordinary happens:
